Understanding WiFi Interferences

What other technologies can cause interference with your WiFi?

Typically these devices operate on the 2.4Ghz frequency. The following are just some of the devices which might cause problems:

  • Wireless cctv cameras, Audio/Video senders
  • Wireless reversing cameras in nearby cars.
  • Some cordless phones may cause problems.
  • Baby monitors.
  • Microwaves when in use can also cause problems as they use the 2.4Ghz frequency to cook food.

If you have problems with these other devices causing interference with your WiFi, then consider switching to the 5Ghz WiFi band, but note that not all routers and devices support the 5Ghz frequency, although newer devices commonly do. This eliminates most interference issues, and also generally has greater speed.

Once you have eliminated the possibilities of interference, continue with your WiFi speed test to determine where in the ISP managed connections there maybe a problem.
